CAPROW BY PETER COX

We tread the paths of Dorset

Walking many a mile

Up and down the hills and vales

Through muddy gates and over awkward stiles

We sometimes curse the leader

For his chosen path

Then see there is a funny side

And end up with a laugh

Why is there mud and water

When we’ve had no rain?

Or look he’s going to take us

Up that terrible climb again

When you are the leader

You’re either good or bad

You can make your walkers happy

You can even make them sad

You find a place to start the walk

Grid references must be given

Will there be a pub stop?

If so, that will make it heaven

It’s time to get the boots on

Then to lock the car

We set out for a mile or two

This walk it seems so far

Can we have a break now?

It seems there is no end

This sun is getting hotter

Or now here comes the rain

On again to the pub stop

To have a welcomed drink

Then it’s up again and onward

To find the homeward link

Our path will now be upwards

There has to be a hill

The sun will soon be setting

You can feel the evening chill

We walk on regardless

And get back to the cars

Thanking the leader for the walk

It’s homeward beneath the stars

We look at the programme

To see where next we meet

Can we really do it

With these aching feet?

Soon they are forgotten

It’s off we go again

Up and down the coast path

It really is a strain

Dorset is so lovely

To see it you must walk

With your friends in CAPROW

There is plenty of time to talk

If you’re getting beyond long walks

There’s still old CAPROW friends

Who meet up on Wednesdays

And a warm welcome to all extends
